Slovnyx Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how Slovnyx ("Slovnyx", "we", "our", or "us") collects, uses, shares, and protects information when you use the Slovnyx mobile app, website, and related services (the "Service").

Summary

Slovnyx is a language-learning app that creates personalized vocabulary collections from movies, TV shows, topics, pasted text, photos, and your learning history.

We do not sell personal information. We do not show third-party ads. We do not use user data for cross-app advertising tracking.

Slovnyx does not host, stream, download, or store copies of full movies or TV episodes. The media feature uses movie and TV metadata, poster images, and vocabulary or lexicon data to help create study lists. Third-party media metadata, posters, and source datasets remain subject to their providers' terms and the rights of their owners.

Information We Collect

Account and profile information

When you sign in, we collect information needed to create and manage your account, including:

• Email address.
• Firebase user ID and local Slovnyx user ID.
• Sign-in provider information, such as Google sign-in or email link sign-in.
• First name and last name if provided by your sign-in provider or entered in your profile.
• Profile picture if provided by your sign-in provider or uploaded in profile settings.

Device, app, and session information

We collect technical information needed to run, secure, and improve the Service, including:

• Device or app identifiers, such as Firebase installation or app instance identifiers, Firebase Cloud Messaging tokens, and a Slovnyx device identifier used with API requests.
• Platform, app version, operating system, device metadata, locale, language settings, time zone, and notification authorization state.
• IP address and standard server log information, which may be used for security, abuse prevention, diagnostics, and approximate location or analytics in Firebase.
• Crash reports, non-fatal error reports, app lifecycle events, screen views, and other diagnostics.

Learning and app activity information

We collect information about how you use Slovnyx so the app can personalize your learning experience, including:

• Language profile, such as interface language, translation language, system language, native languages, secondary languages, and provider locale when available.
• Survey status, survey answers, score, study progress, quiz sessions, quiz answers, attempts, and learning level signals.
• Saved, known, learning, skipped, and reviewed words or phrases.
• Collections, including collection names, descriptions, colors, icons, visibility settings, selected words, sort order, and source type.
• Movie, TV show, and episode selections used to generate vocabulary collections.
• Daily app activity records, such as the local date, time zone, and first/last seen timestamps for days when you use the app.
• In-app searches and interactions, such as screen views, taps, feature usage, result counts, import counts, and session duration.

User-provided content

If you choose to use import or collection features, we collect the content you provide, including:

• Photos selected from your device for vocabulary extraction.
• Photos selected from your device as a profile picture.
• Pasted text submitted for vocabulary extraction.
• Topics submitted for topic-based vocabulary suggestions.
• Collection names and descriptions that you create or edit.

Photos for vocabulary extraction are uploaded to our server and stored in Google Cloud Storage so we can process them and show the import review. Photo import content is also sent to OpenAI to extract English vocabulary. Profile pictures from sign-in providers or profile settings are stored in Google Cloud Storage so we can display your avatar in the app. Pasted text is processed by Slovnyx to find vocabulary in our dictionary. Topic text may be sent to OpenAI to generate embeddings or suggestions.

How We Use Information

We use the information described above to:

• Create, authenticate, and manage your account.
• Display and manage your profile picture in the app.
• Provide the app's learning features, including recommendations, collections, quizzes, word status, translations, audio, and progress tracking.
• Generate vocabulary lists from movies, TV shows, episodes, topics, pasted text, and photos.
• Send push notifications you enable, such as practice reminders and study milestones.
• Avoid sending reminders on days when you have already used the app.
• Sync settings and app state across sessions and devices.
• Monitor app stability, diagnose crashes and errors, improve performance, and prevent abuse.
• Maintain security, enforce our terms, comply with law, and respond to user requests.

How We Share Information

We share information with service providers that process data for us and help us operate the Service. These providers may include:

• Google Firebase and Google Cloud for authentication, analytics, crash reporting, cloud messaging, hosting, storage, and infrastructure.
• OpenAI for photo vocabulary extraction and topic-related AI processing.
• Media data providers, such as TMDB, IMDb-related datasets, OpenSubtitles, and SubDL, for movie and TV metadata, poster data, and vocabulary or subtitle-derived lexicon signals. During normal app use, Slovnyx primarily searches its own backend catalog. If poster images are loaded from a third-party host, that host may receive standard request information such as IP address and device/browser request metadata.

We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect rights and safety, to investigate abuse or security issues, or in connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets.

We do not sell personal information.

Analytics, Crash Reporting, and Notifications

Slovnyx uses Firebase Analytics to understand product usage and improve the app. We log events such as screen views, session starts and ends, login success or failure, import counts, quiz starts and finishes, and feature usage. We avoid sending raw user-entered content, email addresses, names, authorization headers, access tokens, refresh tokens, image filenames, movie titles, search terms, or collection names to Firebase Analytics.

Slovnyx uses Firebase Crashlytics to collect crash logs, non-fatal errors, stack traces, device/app diagnostics, and sanitized custom keys. Crashlytics may be linked to your user ID so we can diagnose account-specific failures.

If you enable notifications, we collect and store your push notification token, notification permission status, notification preferences, locale, and time zone so we can send enabled reminders and milestone notifications. We also use lightweight daily activity records to avoid sending reminders after you have already used the app that day. You can change notification preferences in the app or in your device settings.

Photos, Text, Topics, and AI Processing

Photo imports are optional. When you select photos for vocabulary extraction, the selected photos are uploaded to Slovnyx and sent to OpenAI for processing. OpenAI returns extracted vocabulary and suggested collection metadata. If you cancel a photo import before saving it, Slovnyx deletes the uploaded photo files associated with that canceled import.

OpenAI's API data controls state that API inputs and outputs are not used to train OpenAI models unless the API customer opts in, and abuse monitoring logs may be retained for up to 30 days unless a longer period is legally required or needed for safety.

Text imports are optional. When you paste text, Slovnyx stores and processes that text to identify vocabulary for your review.

Topic imports are optional. When you submit a topic, Slovnyx stores the topic and may send it to OpenAI to generate embeddings or vocabulary suggestions.

Do not upload or paste content that you do not have the right to use.

Retention and Deletion

We keep account information, learning history, collections, imports, and related records for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service, maintain security, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce agreements.

Uploaded photo files for a pending photo import are deleted if you cancel that import. Profile pictures, uploaded photo files, and image metadata associated with your account are deleted when you delete your account.

When you delete your Slovnyx account in the app, Slovnyx deletes your account and associated personal data, including profile information, profile picture, authentication sessions, push tokens, daily app activity records, language profile, learning progress, quiz history, scores, surveys, collections, saved words, imports, uploaded photos, pasted text, and topic import data. Slovnyx may keep anonymous aggregate word-signal counts that are not linked to you, such as total counts showing how often a dictionary entry was marked known, skipped, or answered correctly across users.

Some app data is cached locally on your device, such as settings, API cache entries, widget payloads, and pending email sign-in information. Logging out or deleting your account clears account session data and some local cache data. Some local data may remain on your device or in device backups until removed by the operating system, app storage cleanup, or uninstalling the app.

You may also request deletion of your Slovnyx account and associated data by contacting us at privacy@slovnyx.com. We will delete or de-identify account data unless we need to retain limited information for legal, security, fraud prevention, or operational reasons. If we retain any data after an account deletion request, we will retain only what is reasonably necessary for those purposes.

Your Choices

You can:

• Update profile names and profile picture in the app.
• Change language, translation, theme, audio, daily goal, and notification preferences in Settings.
• Turn notifications off in the app or device settings.
• Sign out of the app.
• Delete your account from the app.
• Request account and data deletion by contacting privacy@slovnyx.com.

Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, or export your personal information. Contact us to make a privacy request.

Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards to protect personal information. Data transmitted between the app and our servers is sent over HTTPS. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Children

Slovnyx is not intended for children under 13, or for children under the minimum age required by local law. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child provided personal information to Slovnyx, contact us and we will take appropriate steps to delete it.

International Processing

We and our service providers may process and store information in countries other than the country where you live. These countries may have data protection laws different from your local laws. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards for international transfers.

Changes To This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the effective date and provide additional notice when required by law.
